Meta Modular 3D Building Challenge for Engineering
Highlights
This is a skill-building lesson where students are challenged to design simple 3D modular nodes that can accommodate 1/4" wooden dowels in a way that allows for the creation of a larger 3D structure. It is a great introduction to 3D printing with no prior 3D modeling experience required.
By using the Meta-Modular method, it offers an opportunity to customize, share, and modify the lesson, making this lesson scalable in size and complexity to meet various learning objectives across multiple grades and disciplines. In this version, we are making a 3D sign for the school's Science Night based on a model font. The lesson ensures successful project execution by a small group of 7th-8th grade students within a limited timeframe.
The lesson aligns with NGSS and Common Core standards.
