3D image of a black hole
Highlights
Would you like a 3D model of a real black hole?
In 2017, the Event Horizon Telescope observed the supermassive black hole at the centre of the M87 galaxy. After a lot of work, the collaboration released an image they had created from the data in 2019. It shows the shadow of the black hole against the glow of hot plasma falling into the hole.
If you are more interested in the project, you can visit the Event Horizon Telescope website. There you can also find the underlying data used to construct the image.
Braille labels have been written along the sides for the benefit of people with limited or no vision.
